One day as I was exploring, I happened into a large expanse of desert sand and there I caught my first glimpse of an incredible magical creature I learned is called an Egyptan. As I came up over the first dunes I saw what I thought at first was a red fox, but this was no ordinary fox. It was about the size of a fox, but it had two sets of wings and five tails! It ran off into the distance but I climbed down the dunes and began to follow the tracks. When I looked up again I saw it again, looking back at me. It knew I was following! I paused, not wanting to bother the beautiful animal, but it seemed to be waiting. Perhaps it wanted me to follow? So I slowly began my trek across the desert sands, following the magical winged fox. It led me through an oasis watering hole where I could see many eyes watching me from behind the dense vegetation that grew around the sparkling pond coming out of the rocky earth. Every once in a while, just as I lost sight of the creature, it would turn around and wait, watching me as I caught up, but always moving on before I got too close. I began to be glad I drank my fill at the watering hole because the day was drawing on and I was beginning to tire. Yet I felt continually drawn to the creature and my curiosity burned brighter than the desert sun. The shadows of the sand dunes and my staggering figure began to draw out in long rippling pools of darkness as evening began to fall. I looked up and saw the first star of the evening as the winds began to cool. As I rounded the next dune in the dimming light, I saw a rise of rocks ahead, and the creature was heading towards them. By the time I reached the rocks the moon has risen and lit the landscape giving it an eerie luminescence. I could see there were caves and crevasses in the rocks, and the many tailed fox lay in the opening of one of the caves, seeming to smile at me. I hesitated, the magical creature had never let me approach it as it led me, but it seemed friendly as I came closer. I suddenly felt a calming presence, as if something was gently soothing my fears away, and I was surprised to find myself walk up to the creature and crouch before it, extending my hand in greeting. Up close the creature was even more breathtaking than at a distance. I looked deep into its eyes and seemed to sense bright humor and intelligence there. "We are Egyptans" it somehow seemed to speak inside my mind! It turned aside from the entrance to the cave and I entered to find a strange cocoon. When I turned back the creature seemed to have vanished into the night. I curled up inside the cave for warmth and slept by the cocoon till morning. When I awoke, I had the strong urge to touch the cocoon, the strange gift of the creature who so carefully and patiently led me to it. To my surprise I sensed movement and emotions coming from it at my touch! It was then I realized the amazing truth, that the magical creature had led me to one of its offspring and I had been chosen to care for it! Humbled by this honor, I touched the cocoon again, and began speaking to it in my mind, feeling that somehow, it could hear me. I then carefully picked up the cocoon and, cradling it in my arms, I carried it back to the water hole oasis. Now it sits under one of the jungle trees near the pond, and I talk to it every day, knowing one day it will open and a young Egyptan will emerge into the world for me to care for.
