The second wine of the renowned 2ème Cru Classé estate, Gruaud Larose, Sarget de Gruaud Larose shows all the hallmarks of the great St-Julien wine, but with a fruitiness that makes it more approachable when young. An excellent Malbec made from grapes grown in the foothills of the Andes, one of the most favoured areas for cultivating grapes in Argentina. Ripe bramble and spicy blackberry notes on the nose are echoed on the richly textured palate, with hints of vanilla oak and balanced acidity on the finish. Ideal with grilled red meats or spicy pasta dishes.

Hidalgo Oloroso, Sherry, at MajesticWine
From the family owned Hidalgo vineyards this is a deliciously round Oloroso with warm, rich nutty flavours and a mellow sweetness. Serve at room temperature as an aperitif or with desserts.

The Montagny appellation is situated between Meursault and Mâcon and boasts a healthy production of value-for-money white Burgundy. This Chardonnay is made by the excellent Buxy co-operative and offers ripe lemons on the palate with an elegant, steely dry finish.

Sauvignon Blanc 'Soresere' Forchir 2006, Friuli, at MajesticWine
By the end of the 19th century, Sauvignon had made its way to Friuli and eastern Italy where it found a natural home, particularly in the gravely soils of Udine. 'Soresere', a Friulan word meaning 'over the evening' or sunset, is the name of the west facing vineyard where the grapes are grown. Light straw in colour, this fresh, harmonious wine brings to mind exotic fruit and melon. Aromatic and delicate, enjoy with quiches and delicate meats.

Mount Langi Billi Billi Creek Shiraz 2003, Victoria, at MajesticWine
Made from low-yielding vines giving intensely concentrated grapes, this Mount Langi Ghiran Shiraz shows notes of plums and black fruits on both nose and palate, joined by the distinctive black pepper characters that are typical of 'Langi' wines. Exceptional value from an up-and-coming producer, it is excellent with barbecued meats or strong cheeses.
