To provide opportunities for people in under-resourced communities to fulfil their creative potential and earn an income by producing craft.

OBJECTIVES

To provide education and training to emerging crafters of the iNdlovu and Ugu regions, KwaZulu-Natal and promote the diversity of quality craft available in these regions.

STRATEGIES

The objectives of the project are fulfilled by implementing the following interrelated initiatives;

The Umthangala Programme

A series of workshops, lectures and excursions aimed at assisting crafters realise their creative potential and attain the technical skills required to produce saleable products. The programme also includes training in product development, marketing and basic business skills thereby encouraging self-reliance among crafters.

Echo Ngezandla Craft Bazaar

An annual craft bazaar that provides a prestigious market for all crafters of the iNdlovu and Ugu regions, thereby encouraging sales and awareness of their work, locally, nationally and internationally.

Ngezandla Zethu Awards

Presentation of awards to the craft groups and crafters that achieve the best results at the annual Echo Ngezandla Zethu Craft Bazaar thereby encouraging excellence in craft production.

The Ngezandla Zethu Bursary

The establishment of a bursary fund that creates the opportunity for crafters to receive specialised training as craft tutors.

The Ngezandla Zethu Newsletter

A newsletter aimed at marketing the services of the Ngezandla Zethu project and providing useful information to crafters on markets and materials.
