Shirt Number: 25 Position: Forward Date of Birth: 1/8/76 Birthplace: Owerri, Nigeria Height: 6'5" Weight: 12st 9lbs Profile: Kanu is an extravagantly skillful player, capable of doing the totally unexpected and thus turning a game completely. His repertoire of goals and tricks is vast and has brought him success at club level, including Dutch championship medals and a Champions' League winners medal. He is also the Nigerian national team captain and won an Olympic Gold medal in 1996 after recovering from a life-threatening heart ailment. Moved from Ajax to Inter Milan in 1996 and joined Arsenal for £4.5million in 1999 Made his debut in the FA Cup against Sheffield United in February of that year and became a fans favourite with a magnificent hat-trick against London rivals Chelsea. Can play up front or in a deeper role, but in either case his ability to create chances for others is as eye-catching as the goals he gets himself. Was far from his best during the 00/01 season and was in and out of the side. He, as much as any player in any squad rotation system, seemed put out by what was or wasn't happening to him. |
